In
1990, in an attempt to aid the Oil & Gas industry
and the Fishing industry to coexist peacefully, MMS
issued regulations that required abandoned well sites
to be swept with a standard shrimp trawl to insure that
no foreign objects remain to liter the ocean floor.
The regulation, NTL 90-01 was created and its predecessor,
NTL 98-26 currently regulates this service for the trawl
boat industry.

Site
Clearance Verification, entails a trawl boat to pull its nets
on a grid pattern north to south, south to north, east to west
and then west to east covering the entire radius of the site.
Each pass is 80 feet apart and a report of the activities on
each line is recorded.
The
navigation system employed by B & J Martin, Inc. utilizes
a Trimble Model 4000 Differential Surveyor using DGPS signals
generated by the United States Coast Guard. Navigation software
was written by Sentinel Systems specifically for Site Clearance
Operations. Computers and peripherals aboard each vessel allow
real time post mission analysis through the use of computer
graphics and hard copy presentation. One hundred percent backup
is provided on all vessels.
B
& J Martin, Inc. currently has two 85' trawl boats equipped
with skilled and reliable crew and equipment. With our experience
in over 1000 successful platform, caisson, and dry hole site
clearance projects completed, we are confident that we can
meet your highest expectations.
